As co-founder and head coach at the Leicester Olympic Weightlifting Club, (LOWC) I am deeply passionate about weightlifting, for me, lifting goes beyond just exercise.

Barbell work can improve coordination, strength, mobility, body awareness, speed and power. This is a great sport for anyone from well-trained athletes to complete beginners.

I offer a two-phased approach to weightlifting. I believe in intelligent lifting and that takes time to get right. With intelligent lifting, your gains will be greater and your chance for injury dramatically reduced.

In phase one, the focus is on learning and demonstrating excellent technique, before any weights can be used. I do this through analysing your posture, weight distribution and body type. The training I prescribe in phase one is relevant to your body only. These foundational exercises will help to build excellence in phase two.

Once the mobility and technique has reached a safe standard, phase two kicks in. This is about repetition and practice, getting stronger in the two main lifts: Snatch & Clean and Jerk, as well as important assistance exercises such as squats, shoulder presses, deadlifts and much more.

Having started olyimpic lifting just because my partner did, I can say now that I love it!
